Jawbone Marine Sanctuary

Snorkelling in Melbourne? Yes, it’s a thing! Port Phillip Bay is filled with life and colours, and if you’re a keen snorkeler or diver it is not to be missed. Jawbone Marine Sanctuary is just a 20 minute drive from the CBD, so there is no excuse not to explore it.

Marine life

There is plenty to see here! Stingrays, banjo sharks, jellyfish, toadfish and much more. You find a lot of juvenile fish here, especially toadfish. I love the colors of the underwater plants that grow here.

Conditions

It is quite a sheltered little spot and great for beginners. I have been to this spot in most conditions, high and low tides, southerly and northerly winds, even in typical Melbourne weather.

Getting here

There is parking on Mullins Court and then it’s just a 5 minutes walk down to the beach/snorkel entry.
